The Route

Day 1: Graubünden and beyond – From Davos to Italy

58 km | 1250 mD+

Day 1 begins in the Lower Engadin at the base of the Veraina tunnel from Davos. The valley greets us with bright tidy villages and that unmistakable Engadin feeling.

As we follow the Inn downstream, we traverse larch forests, open meadows and cute villages. The terrain is stunning while kind on the legs: slight rises, flowing descents, and constant views of rugged peaks framing the valley.

We ride through 3 countries today: Switzerland, Austria, and Italy. Once at the border with Austria, our biggest challenge of the day greets us with the Reschenpass, where we have a gentle 500m climb over 15km to our hotel on the Reschensee just over the border in Italy.

Day 2: Back to Graubünden via the Stelvio and Umbrail

72 km | 2000 mD+

Leaving the Reschensee, the day starts with a calm ride along the lake with it’s famous partially submerged church tower before a wonderful descent to Prato allo Stelvio.

With 24 km of climbing, roughly 1,800 meters of elevation gain, and an average gradient just under 8 %, the Stelvio demands respect. The 48 numbered hairpins help breakup the climb into manageable steps, and we have all day to enjoy the magnificent views on our pilgrimage to the summit.

After a well-earned break at the top, the route turns toward the Umbrail and back into Switzerland where we are rewarded with an exhilarating descent after all our hard work. Rolling into Santa Maria later in the day, there’s that shared, quiet pride of having ridden a legendary pass, capped off with laughter and a well-deserved drink at the hotel.

Day 3: The Ofenpass and the Swiss National Park

67 km | 1400 mD+

Starting in Val Müstair, day three takes you straight into the heart of the Swiss National Park as you climb the Ofenpass.

The road winds steadily upward for 13km and just under 800m+, surrounded by pristine alpine scenery and, if your lucky, a glimpse of Alpine wildlife in this protected region.

After the pass it’s a rolling descent to Zernez and a final gentle climb up the Inn into the Upper Engadin and Celerina, our home for the next 2 nights.

Day 4: Las Ciclistas Bike Festival

Today is the day we’ve been waiting for, and the reason for our expedition to Graubünden: to take part in the Las Ciclistas bike festival!

You can choose your program. Do you want to test your technical skills and join a group in mountain biking paradise? Or would you prefer to stay on the road and join Cycling Heidi or another guide to explore some of the region’s famous passes? Or perhaps you’d simply prefer a day off to admire the glaciers or discover the surrounding villages on foot?

Whatever you choose to do during the day, meet up at 16h to take part in the festival’s evening activities. More information on the Ciclistas website.

Day 5: Flüela Pass

65 km | 1150 mD+

All good things must come to an end, as is unfortunately the case with our trip. But not before conquering one last famous pass in Graubünden: The Flüela Pass.

Leaving Celerina, we start with a gentle descent from the Upper to the Lower Engadin, and we find ourselves almost back to where we started our tour. Here our last effort begins. Our 1000-metre ascent starts in the village of Susch, and after a few turns we are quickly into alpine pastures.

Once over the summit, the descent into Davos offers a smooth, flowing ride through alpine landscapes. It’s a lovely way to say goodbye to our adventure as we roll into the Davos train station, proud and grateful to have ridden such an amazing adventure with a fabulous group.
