Second social ride for the Alpenbrevet Odyssey.

This is one of my classic “adventure” rides. It’s challenging but worth the effort. The Emosson climb and lake are breathtaking. Your effort is rewarded with a nearly 360° panorama of the alps and famous peaks of the region, including Mont Blanc. But rarely do we visit it as by road it requires going over the Forclaz, either via a busy road or the incredibly steep old road. And then it’s just an out and back…how boring!

But there is another way for the adventurous. Between Les Marecottes and Finhaut is a gravel track. It’s steep and gravely. By road bike it will certainly require some walking (bring VTT shoes or a pair of sandals for walking if you dont want to get your road shoes dirty). But it’s a short segment and definetly worth the effort to discover this forgotten valley and visit Emosson with a loop!

And if 2000 metres of climbing feels like too much this early in the season, no need to worry: you can always catch the train in Finhaut 😉
